There are so many religions, ideologies, and ideas in our world today. In the hustle and bustle of trying to make sense of all that is offered to us, they all begin to look the same. The one thing that separates one from all the rest is truth. Before this series begins, the students should understand this: there is only one truth. It may even be wise to have this posted on the wall. Believe it or not, students today are bombarded with the concept of “relative truth” or the idea that what is right for one is wrong for another. We believe the bible to be the One Truth. If our lives do not match the truth, we should change. If our religion or denomination does not match the truth, we should change. God and His Word are ultimate truth, and we are called to match up with Him.
I realize that this study has the potential to become heavy. Take it easy. Just because we have wandered away from your typical student lesson material, like inspirational lesson series or character studies, you should remain the light hearted teacher of young people. If they see a change in you, they will change their response to you. If you fall into the trap of thinking that doctrinal studies are boring and for the old and wise, then the students will believe the same. In this study, other religions’ names will come up. Keep it light hearted. Judgment is not the purpose. Our goal is never to define the counterfeit, but to define the original and allow students to choose between right and wrong.
